Organically modified ceramic, also known as ORMOCER (ORganically MOdified CERamic) is a type of coating used in the conservation of metals. ORMOCER was originally developed by the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research in Munich.[citation needed] While it is still in research phase, ORMOCER is essentially a heteropolysiloxane based clear-coat.[citation needed]
